good news?
no...GREAT NEWS!
For the last six months, we have been getting to know Angel and Monica and their three children (Marina, Angel and Ulises). Well, they decided to put their faith in Christ! They are reading the Bible, growing and changing. It is fun to watch God transform them little by little. We are so glad to be a small part of that! Please pray for them. They have hard pasts which affect their day to day lives.OUR NEIGHBORS: Pepe and his wife Encarni have opened up more. They see us as "different" than the rest of the neighbors. They told us that we are the only neighbors they have let in their home (and they have lived here over 20 years). Pepe especially is spiritually hungry and Encarni struggles with depression. They are raising their granddaughter and are facing a difficult custody battle with the other set of grandparents. Please pray for them to give their hearts over ...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
Thanksgiving Outreach: We have been excited to meet two Americans (Renee and Brenda) here in Spain who are married to Spaniards (Quike and Carlos, respectively). The relationships have come about because our children go to school or have some activity together. Both Renee and Brenda have expressed an interest in celebrating Thanksgiving because they normally don't get to and really miss it. We are going to have their families in our home on November 19th for a Thanksgiving lunch. Pray that we can be a light to these families as we share why we are thankful to God!! Recently, I have been very thankful for problems. In the last two months, God has used our problems to bring about more friendships and has deepened existing relationships. One night, I took the kids to the park so that they could play and I could chat with ...

Summer Ministry!
College Team from Lincoln, NE
We were so excited to host the Campus Impact team from Lincoln Berean Church in June. They are in Spain reaching out to various towns and ministries and came here for their first week. Last fall, Matt and Dan (the team's leader) discussed the possibility of using a language-learning program to reach out to our community here. It is called "Language Aquisition Made Practical" or LAMP. Basically, you practice the language every morning with a native speaker and then head out onto the street talking and learning from the people. This team did an amazing job. They were able to make real friends with people in our community and our contact list has exploded because of it!! I (Rachel) was able to become friends with two young girls (Marina and Nayara) that work in a cafe. I look forward to continuing reaching out to these girls. The team also lived with ...

On July 23rd, 2011, AIC Huruma (in partnership with Holy Trinity Church and the Charles Simeon Trust) will be hosting a special one-day Seminar on Biblical Exposition for over 100 pastors from the many slums scattered throughout Nairobi, Kenya.
Holy Trinity Church and AIC have enjoyed a ministry partnership since our exploratory visit to Huruma, a “middle-class” Nairobi slum, in 2003. On that trip, Pastor Jon Dennis, Jim White, Val Uhle and Suzanne (Morad) Lincoln visited Pastor Stanlas Ndambuki, his wife, Judith, and their two daughters in a second-story apartment at the edge of Huruma. They prayed about a possible partnership, which has since grown into an eight-year relationship.
During the “partnership-building” phase (2004 through 2007) HTC organized four ministry trips to Huruma. Each year an average of 15 HTC members and attenders raised support to minister with our brothers ...

God's Flashlight
We feel so blessed and honored to take God's Word to the people here. God's Word is a "lamp", right? A more modern term would be a flashlight. Matt and I have talked many times about the church being a "light on a hill" and that we sometimes feel like we are God's "flashlights" going into the trenches and the caves looking for those who need light. That is exactly what our ministry is. We go every week to two different towns and share God's Word with some very needy people. We never know what we are going to run into. They are inundated with dark problems such as abuse, suicide, prostitution, hate and drugs. This last week, we went to do our study at Emi's house just to find out that two of the people had had a huge fight. They were yelling at each other and the atmosphere was full of insults. Neither wanted to take the first step at reconciling. After talking with them for about an ...

In the wider worlds of art, architecture, cuisine, and of course, music, “fusion” signifies the late-20th-century realization that culture is fluid. Techniques have never been fixed in space, but today, performing artists make conscious efforts to cross stylistic boundaries. Classical musicians, for instance, explore jazz and world music; rock artists draw upon the poetic freedom of folk and the rhythmic intrigue of funk. At their best, fusion experiments plumb the depths of multiple idioms, locate their common wells of inspiration, and produce sounds (or sights or tastes) that exceed the sum of the parts. That is why we call it fusion: it is not merely the coexistence of styles, but the wedding of sensibilities. Indeed, virtually any musical style we could think of (including those already mentioned) began as a felicitous fusion of various techniques.
It is sometimes hard for churches to embrace cultural fluidity, particularly when it comes to music. ...

As a church family we are mourning for the lives lost in Haiti. As we mourn, we are praying, trusting God and wanting to help however we can.
We have established an informal Haiti response team and are writing now to update you on a few items related to Holy Trinity’s participation in the relief effort.
Our first medical professional departs for Haiti tonight at 6:50 p.m. He will travel first to Ft. Lauderdale and then tomorrow to the Dominican Republic. In Santo Domingo he will meet up with Med Air, a Swiss-based relief organization and travel to Port Au Prince to assist World Relief in their efforts.
Please pray for Dr. Ryan Carroll of our downtown congregation.
Additionally, we have one other individual who has been asked by a relief organization to depart tomorrow for Haiti. Please pray for wisdom.
If you are a medical professional and are interested in assisting in some way, feel free to contact Samuel ...
