Preaching at Holy Trinity Church
PREACHING:
We are sometimes asked this great question, “Why do you preach the way you do at Holy Trinity?” Here are a few (10) beginning reasons:
1. We are gospel-centered because everyone needs the gospel (Romans 1:14-17; 1 Corinthians 15:1-5).
2. We are city-focused because God has called us (not everyone) to live in the city and to work and pray for renewal here (Jeremiah 29:5-7; Jonah 4:11; Acts 18:10; 19:8-10).
3. We are Christ-exalting because in the end, God is only honored through Christ (John 14:6).
4. We are expository because what God has to say matters more than what we have to say (2 Timothy 3:14- 17, 4:1-5).
5. We are affectional because our hearts are constantly attaching themselves to idols other than Christ (John 4:22, Acts 17:22-23).
6. We are sinner-humbling because a true encounter with Christ involves seeing our own sin (Luke 5:1-11).
7. We are Spirit-dependent because only God can bring new life (John 3:5; Ezekiel 37:3-4)
8. We are (big word) redemptive-historical because the Old and New Testament find their center and fulfillment in Jesus (Luke 24:44-48).
9. We are missional because Jesus has called his disciples to mission (Matthew 28:18-20), all peoples should praise him (Psalm 67:3), the New Testament suggest even unbelievers can encounter God in the gathering (1 Corinthians 14:20-25).
10. We correct and apply because while God’s word is life-altering, culture often twists truth (Deuteronomy 4:9; 6:4-9; 2 Timothy 4:16-17; Acts 20:26-31).
