University Ministry

Holy Trinity Church's roots were first laid in Hyde Park, and for that reason much of our university ministry happens at the University of Chicago. During the academic year (mid-September to mid-June), HTC's Hyde Park University Ministry consists of three primary components: Sunday lunches, one-to-one Bible reading, and campus lectures.

Youth Ministry (HTCY)

Holy Trinity Church's youth group is based out of HTC's Hyde Park congregation, though students from across the city attend. Any student in 6th-12th grade is welcome to come and participate. HTCY regularly meets on Saturday nights and is built around times of Bible study, monthly activities or service projects, and making new friends. Learn more about HTC's youth ministry at the HTCY website.

Children’s Ministry

Kid City: 9:30am - 10:30am

Kid City, the name of our Sunday school ministry to children, is offered at 9:30 am for infants through 5th grade. Children can “board” the Blue Line, Green Line, Red Line, or Orange Line Trains and travel to their classes for a Bible lesson, craft/activities, a snack and a Missions Moment where children will learn about a "Global Ministry Partner" supported by our church.

This year, our preschoolers and K–2nd grade class will continue focusing on stories from the New Testament. Our 3rd–5th graders will focus on the “Big Picture” of the Bible, how the stories of the Old and New Testaments fit together.

We believe it is important to offer even our youngest children a sure foundation of Jesus. Our little ones (ages 0-2) will be taught simple truth statements and Bible stories using the curriculum A Sure Foundation: The Wonders He Has Done. These truth statements will be repeated over and over to the children. Though many of our children are very young, our hope is that through repetition and the experience of being loved, cared for, and prayed for in the nursery, each child will learn to understand them. Infants and toddlers can remain in the nursery for the entirety of the 9:30am and 10:30am service.

Big Picture Kids: 10:30am-12:00pm

During the 10:30am service, all children ages 3 thru 2nd grade will be dismissed just prior to the sermon for Big Picture Kids. Children will engage in music, a Bible lesson, craft and other fun activities. We will be using curriculum developed by Grace Brethren Church in California, which corresponds to “The Big Picture Story Bible” written by David Helm and illustrated by Gail Schoonmaker.

The 3rd through 5th graders will remain in the 10:30am service. There will be a weekly handout, “Kid Connect”, available to them. It is designed to engage the older children with Scripture and the sermon, as well as, reiterate what was taught during their 9:30am Kid City class. Big Picture Kids and Kid Connect are intended to enhance the learning of both the younger and older children.

Community Group Ministry

Through community group ministry (mid-September to mid-May) we share our lives together through Bible study, meals, and prayer in our homes and we look forward to sharing Christ in meaningful ways with others in our community or through our other networks. Learn more about our community groups on the community groups page.
