After several weeks of release from enslavement, the community of Israel is increasingly contentious with their living conditions—in the case of Exodus 17:1-7, the issue is their need for water. But more than a focus on their barren surroundings or even their need for physical hydration, is it possible that the Biblical story addresses an even deeper kind of thirst? Sermon on Exodus 15:1-21

The episode of Israel's release from Egypt after over 400 years was a hasty departure out the front door, but under the watchful eye of God whose plan for redemption was only moving into the next chapter. Along the way, the sense of community identity secures the radical event of freedom. Might there be too an urgency in God's freedom for us, according to his plan, in the context of intentional community?
