In this story of Simon the Magician and Philip, we see the unrivaled power of the Gospel that reveals our depravity, our need, and our sin. The Gospel exalts Christ and we're called to cling to it in humility.

In the passage, we see that God grows His Word, and we see the church, as a community and as individuals, grow as a result.

In this passage, we see Stephen lived and died to further the Gospel, as the Gospel demands no less from him, or from us.

In this passage, Luke relates the model of the early church so that we today can be amazed at the power of God and be inspired by what He can do. We see the church as a witnessing church, unified, public, controversial, and attractive, driven by the Gospel and motivated by our daily experience in Christ.

The Gospel frees us from our love for possessions and enables us to see the needs of others. As such, we need to have a greater understanding of God's grace to have a greater attitude of generosity.

The believers find themselves in difficult circumstances that might cause them to be discouraged or turn back. However, they find themselves in this situation because they were faithful in speaking His Word, and therefore don't pray for the removal of the circumstances, but for boldness to continue to speak His name. And in this, we see that they acknowledge God's sovereignty in all things in their prayer.

Through the apostles' example, we see that we must proclaim the name of Christ, proclaim what we've seen and heard. Lead by the Spirit, we speak and live confidently, and God's power will be undeniably demonstrated and His name will be praised.

The authenticity of the Gospel is validated by the healing done in Jesus' name and rooted in the Scripture, and the proper response is therefore to put faith in His name. We do this through repentance, to admit one's guilt, to turn to Him, and to live in the "times of refreshing" in His grace.
